So how do the “hows” work in a Brand Declaration? I’ve been talking a lot in the LinkedIn group for members of our Mastermind Sphere of Influence (SOI) about the value of declaring your brand using our one-page Purpose-Why-Hows Brand Declaration. Several people asked about the "hows", so I’m sharing a PDF with several examples. A Brand Declaration is a leadership imperative, a clear and powerful statement that consists of three parts: 1 Your Purpose: why you exist to serve 2 Your Why: at what you are the best in the world, and the transformation you facilitate when tapped into your zone of genius/your strengths. 3 Your Hows: These are your non-negotiables. In the absence of your hows, you cannot create an impact. Start with an action word. Up to nine is the best practice. Think of your Brand Declaration as the True North Guide for your personal brand. It will help you make mission-critical decisions about who you want to become, and empower you to say "no" gracefully to people and opportunities that are not on-brand. And your hows, when you look at them every day like I do, will remind you of the way you want to behave that sets your floor for how you do things. What are your non-negotiables? One of mine is “Play big. Stand tall.” Feel free to drop one or more of your Hows in the comments for feedback. Here are some of the hows from the PDF of examples of Brand Declarations (each should be a “stretch” and in the absence of it, you cannot create big impact: Constantly ideate; Hypothesize, reason, test; Pause to appreciate beautiful treasures; Trust my intuition; Instinctively remove blind spots; Stand firmly in leadership; Exemplify service above self; Do the work; Stay calm and focused regardless; Help people to help themselves.
